Cody Law is the fighter you need to watch at Bellator 282.
Bellator 282 will see a whole host of names casual MMA fans will know, like Gegard Mousasi, Leandro Higo, Brennan Ward, Cat Zingano, and Brent Primus. Yet, the name fans should really be watching is Cody Law, who’s taking on James Gonzalez on the YouTube/Pluto TV preshow event.
The Division II wrestling champion has torn through his MMA career, fighting all six times under the Bellator banner, and only once, against Nathan Ghareeb, did he not finish his opponents. He has four first-round finishes, three of which were by knockout.
He has absolutely crushed his competition so far and while featherweight is a deep class of talent in Bellator, he has shown that he’s ready for a step-up in competition.
Cody Law will likely move up in competition if he defeats James Gonzalez
In pro wrestling, when a top-level talent is given a guy to beat up on, they’re called squash matches. The sole purpose is to highlight why this one person is worth watching. In MMA, the same practice can be called “can crushing”.
This should likely be Law’s last “can crushing” fight, as he’s currently ranked #9 in the Bellator featherweight rankings. The most obvious fights would be against former Bellator champ Darrion Caldwell, Daniel Weichel, or Pedro Carvalho.
Or, Law can keep the Gonzales train going and go from James Gonzalez to Justin Gonzales. No relation.
All four names are in the Top 6 of the featherweight rankings and would all give Law that much-needed bump in talent level to see what he really can do.
Bellator 282: Gegard Mousasi vs. Johnny Eblen takes place on Friday, June 24, 2022, live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Follow along with FanSided MMA for all your news and highlights.
