Barrow maintained their perfect start to the new season with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bradford at Holker Street.

Josh Gordon struck the stoppage-time winner - straight after Andy Cook had equalised for the visitors - to make it a maximum six points for Pete Wild's side.

After a dour first half, the game exploded into life with two goals in three minutes.

Ben Whitfield broke the deadlock on 63 minutes when he picked up Patrick Brough's header and fired low past Bradford keeper Harry Lewis from the edge of the D.

Mark Hughes' Bantams levelled two minutes later. Cook and Ryan East combined to tee up Jake Young for an angled drive that hit the underside of the bar and bounced down over the line.

Barrow restored their lead five minutes from time as Whitfield's corner was scrambled in by Josh Kay from close range.

Bradford thought they had rescued a point when Cook pounced after Paul Farman failed to hold Young's shot. But Gordon sealed it in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

    Barrow taking out two promotion hopefuls in Bradford and Stockport, anyone (myself included) who tipped them to go down must be thinking twice about their prediction. Best of luck to the Bluebirds, hope they once defy the odds again; certainly made a start which suggests they can.

    "Little old Barrow" will surprise a lot of teams this season.....Love the attitude that Pete Wild (and his team) has, never give up. Bradford fans will be wishing they had Wild, not Hughes - they can keep their hands off!.

    Good win for Barrow, got some decent players, Foley, McCelland, Neil and Gordon looks a handful, looking already that Barrow won`t be in the bottom two.

    What is it with Mark Hughes he seems a nice enough chap, but as a manager he is average at best, and he keeps getting jobs, although he is slipping down the leagues now to get them, perhaps he will end up in charge of his local pub side ?

    Disaster! We grabbed defeat from the joys of a draw.

    Football can be cruel, City fans ecstatic with a late equaliser, Barrow fans even more ecstatic with an even later winner. This is why I've never left a game early.

    City just can’t seem to be able to ‘manage’ a game. At 2-2 late in the game, they close out the game and take a good away point. Instead, they give away a needless free kick in a dangerous area, fail to clear their lines - and, bang, concede a third goal. City need to increase their tempo. Their play is too pedestrian. I fear it is going to be a long season....,,
