Hartlepool pressed the reset button and came away with a point from a 0-0 draw at home to AFC Wimbledon.

Thumped 4-0 at Walsall on the opening day, Pools were good value for a point against the visitors, who enjoyed a fine win over Gillingham last weekend.

The first half was a tame affair, more akin to a pre-season friendly, and the Dons had the only chances.

Ayoub Assal fired over from 25 yards after Pools lost possession in midfield and the visitors should have scored, a low shot by Lee Brown was pushed out by goalkeeper Ben Killip and Assal put it wide.

But Hartlepool, under new boss Paul Hartley, took control in the second period against the Dons, who were relegated from League One last season.

Pools' best moments came on the hour when Jake Hastie's cross caused chaos, was cleared and from the corner, goalkeeper Nik Tzanev made two agile saves from close range.

At the death, home centre-half Euan Murray almost won it when his 25-yard shot crashed against the crossbar.

    That’s better Pools. A brand new side and still work in progress, but the attitude and commitment second half was excellent. Wimbledon will be pleased to come away with a point.

    A point gained, especially when Pool could have nicked it right at the end. We missed that cutting edge up front but hopefully Hudlin will come good this season. Still impressed by Paris - that's a good addition to the squad. Defensively we can make silly mistakes and give the ball away in dangerous areas. We did it last week against Gillingham but luckily got away with it. Come on the Real Dons.

    Kingstonian fan, we were once a Conference National club, with our own ground and community. Then along can AFC Wimbledon and brought our ground. Thereafter they marginalised us, courting our catchment area by giving away thousands of free tickets. Then they sold the ground to Chelsea without a thought for preserving our future in Kingston. We now play outside the borough. AFC are club killers.

      Can't argue with that at the present time. Yesterday was a much better performance than the abysmal opening game but there is much yet to do for Paul Hartley. As he was quoted pre-season, 'you are only as good as your strikers'. No goals as yet Mr H?

    Wimbledon are so much better than detritus like Hartlepool that it is embarrassed. Nice to chip in to their social awareness policy by saying how much we love them
