Corey Blackett-Taylor joined Charlton from Tranmere in the summer of 2021

Corey Blackett-Taylor scored the only goal as Charlton recovered from a slow start to beat a profligate Derby at The Valley and stay unbeaten after two matches.

The home side were fortunate to be level at the interval after Liam Rosenior's County created and wasted a slew of chances in the south London heat.

The main culprit was striker James Collins, who guided his ninth-minute shot too close to Charlton goalkeeper Joe Wollacott and then struck another effort against the base of the post in the final act of the first half.

The lively Nathaniel Mendez-Laing also tested Wollacott on two occasions as Derby dominated.

Charlton capitalised on those let-offs in the 62nd minute as Charlie Kirk fed Albie Morgan, whose rising shot was parried carelessly into the path of Blackett-Taylor by Derby keeper Joe Wildsmith and the winger tapped into an empty net with glee.

Morgan, whose astute game management drove Charlton on in the second period, almost made it 2-0, but his low shot was turned around the post by Wildsmith.

    Delighted with the victory. One thing that stands out though is how badly some clubs have been badly run which in some cases has meant points deductions & eventual relegation. All clubs should have supporter representation on their clubs board then fans would have better idea how a club is run.

      We were badly run. Morris was a law unto himself, no checks and balances even at board level never mind from the fans. The EFL, a bunch of incompetent amateurs, were guilty of insufficient oversight (Roll on the the independent regulator). Lots of fans giving it large about our current position, but if you ask any Derby fan we are just glad to be in the position we are in, and ready to build back

    Should have won this today, but if you don’t take your chances it will end up as it did. Not too worried yet, but I will if we don’t start improving goal wise in 5-6 games. Well done Charlton, bit of a soft spot for your club, was welcomed by your supporters many moons ago when I came to watch them versus Derby at the Boleyn ground…

    Lucky win today against a skilled Derby side who opened us up all too easily in the first half and should probably have been out of sight. We were more at it after the break. They brought great support too. Derby need to upgrade Cashin at central defence. I’ve seen milk turn quicker.

      Don't do yourself down. You had 7 shots on target compared to Derby's 2.

      Derby are - like Charlton - a 3rd division club. They think they are better, and bigger, than you (than any club in the division, which is blatantly untrue) and they are in for a 3rd division reality check. The support will wane as it becomes apparent they have reached their natural level.

    A wake up call for derby and same story as last year with us not finishing our chances but al ong season and will take time to gel this team with alot of new players coming in.

    Up the addicks! Didn't see the game so my opinions aren't reliable but we ended up having more than tripple the shots on target that Derby had?! Suggests we were more than in the game..

      game of 2 halves derby should been out of sight in first half , Charlton regrouped and played a lot better - dcfc should be embarrassed with their finishing but early days yet but doesn't bode well if the poor finishing continues

    Weird how football results can resemble real life; This result reflects both teams major honours.. Charlton Athletic 1 (Cutty Sark 'mean time,' cup in 1899) Derby County none (although mention must be made to the valiant 6-3 defeat against Sawley 'tub thumping' Wesleyans 'to the greater god' cup in the 1799 running of the South Derby 'wrong uns' cup... Strange...
