England's George Ramm won Commonwealth Games bronze in the wrestling and then announced he was retiring from competing at the age of 26.

Ramm, who is from Bolton, defeated Lowe Bingham of Nauru in the men's freestyle 65kg category, his first medal in his third appearance at the Games.

"I'm done now, I'm finished. I'm retired, that was the last one. I feel old," he said afterwards.

England's Mandhir Kooner won a bronze in the men's freestyle 125kg category.

Ramm is one of England's most experienced wrestlers, having started the sport at the age of 11.

"Nobody is dragging me back, 15 years since I started, it is time to stop," he added. "Hopefully, I will go into coaching."

'I hope I have inspired a lot of people'

Kooner, from Wolverhampton, needed just 36 seconds to see off Kensley Anthony Marie of Mauritius at the Coventry Stadium and Arena complex.

"I'm speechless and proud at the same time," said Kooner.

Mandhir Kooner won gold at the 2021 UK and 2022 English Championships

"As soon as I qualified, I thought 'I want a medal', this is a home Games, my family are here. You heard the crowd, it was crazy.

"I hope I have inspired a lot of people, especially the younger generation and those that I train with."

On a busy day of action, India won three of the six gold medals on offer.

Defending Commonwealth champion Bajrang Punia once again enjoyed success in the men's freestyle 65kg category. Sakshi Malik was in tears on the podium after winning the women's freestyle 62kg, and Deepak Punia triumphed in the men's freestyle 86kg.

Nigeria won two golds through Odunayo Adekuoroye in the women's freestyle 57kg and Blessing Oborududu in the women's freestyle 68kg.

Canada's Amarveer Dhesi won the men's freestyle 125kg gold.

Morning session delayed after speaker fall

The morning session of the wrestling was delayed for more than two hours on Friday after a speaker cover fell from the roof at the Coventry Stadium and Arena complex.

The session was halted and spectators moved out of the viewing area, while the other speakers attached to the arena's roof were checked. No-one was injured.

The delay occurred 30 minutes into the first day of wrestling at the Games.

Supporters waited outside the viewing area while the arena was checked by members of staff
